The Upahuacho District is located in the Parinacochas Province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was established on April 10, 1961. It has an area of ​​577 km². The 2017 census counted 1224 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 788, in 2007 it was 1882. The district administration is located in Upahuacho, 3319  m high, with 179 inhabitants (as of 2017). Upahuacho is 43 km east-northeast of the provincial capital Coracora .

Geographical location

The Upahuacho district is located in the Cordillera Volcánica in the central north of the Parinacochas province. It is drained to the south via the Río Huanca Huanca, a tributary of the Río Marán .

The Upahuacho district is bordered to the west by the district Coracora , on the north by the district Cotaruse ( province Aymaraes ), to the east by the district Coronel Castañeda , in the southeast of the district Pacapausa and the south by the district Lampa ( province Paucar del Sara Sara ) .
