The Lampa district is located in the Páucar del Sara Sara province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of ​​281 km². The 2017 census counted 2079 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2103, in 2007 it was 2473. The district administration is located in the 2850  m high village of Lampa with 425 inhabitants (as of 2017). Lampa is 10 km north of the provincial capital Pausa .

Geographical location

The Lampa district is located in the Cordillera Volcánica in the northwest of the Páucar del Sara Sara province. It is bounded in the west by the Río Pararca (also Río Vado), in the east by the Río Huanca Huanca.

The district of Lampa is bordered to the south by the districts of Pausa , Pararca and Sara Sara , to the west by the districts of Puyusca , Chumpi and Coracora (all three in the province of Parinacochas ), to the north by the districts of Upahuacho and San Francisco de Ravacayco (both in the Parinacochas province), in the southeast to the Marcabamba district and in the east to the Colta district .
