The district of San José de Ushua is located in the province of Páucar del Sara Sara in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was established on December 20, 1955. It has an area of 28.4 km². The 2017 census counted 233 residents. In 1993 the population was 189, in 2007 it was 187. The district administration is based in the 3040 m high town of San José de Ushua with 153 inhabitants (as of 2017). San José de Ushua is 14 km east-northeast of the provincial capital Pausa .
Geographical location
The district of San José de Ushua is located in the Cordillera Volcánica in the central southeast of the province of Páucar del Sara Sara. The lengthwise extension in east-west direction is 13.5 km, the maximum width 3.5 km. It is bounded in the northwest by the Río Maranhuara and Río Oyolo. In the east the district extends to the southwest flank of the 4923 m high mountain Puka Urqu.
The district of San José de Ushua borders in the south on the district Corculla , in the southwest on the district Colta , in the north on the district Oyolo and in the far east on the district Charcana ( province La Unión ).
