The Marcabamba district is located in the Páucar del Sara Sara province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was established on April 3, 1964. It has an area of 120 km². The 2017 census counted 652 residents. In 1993 the population was 745, in 2007 it was 785. The district administration is located in the 2600 m high village of Marcabamba with 460 inhabitants (as of 2017). Marcabamba is 14 km north of the provincial capital Pausa .
Geographical location
The Marcabamba district is located in the Cordillera Volcánica in the western north of the Páucar del Sara Sara province. It is located on the west bank of the south-flowing Río Huanca Huanca.
Marca Bamba district is bordered to the south and the west by the district Lampa , on the north by the district of San Francisco de Ravacayco ( province Parinacochas ), to the east by the district of San Javier de Alpabamba and on the southeast by the district Colta .
