The district of Oyolo is located in the province of Páucar del Sara Sara in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district has an area of ​​251 km². The 2017 census counted 3317 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3036, in 2007 it was 3050. The seat of the provincial and district administration is the 2524  m high small town Pausa with 2502 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pausa is located 254 km south-southeast of the regional capital Ayacucho .

Geographical location

The Pausa district is located in the Cordillera Volcánica in the extreme south of the Páucar del Sara Sara province. The 5505  m high Sarasara volcano (also Sara Sara) rises on the western border of the district . The Río Pararca flows through the north in an easterly direction. The district is bounded in the northeast and east by the Río Huanca Huanca and Río Marán .

The Pausa district is bordered to the west by the Puyusca district ( Parinacochas province ), to the northwest by the Sara Sara and Pararca districts , to the north by the Lampa district , to the northeast by the Colta and Corculla districts, and to the east by the Sayla and Tauría districts ( both in the province of La Unión ) and in the south to the district of Cahuacho ( province of Caravelí ).
