The district of Tauría is located in the province of La Unión in the Arequipa region in southwestern Peru . The district was established on November 19, 1954. It has an area of ​​318 km². The 2017 census counted 329 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 372, in 2007 it was 343. The district administration is located in the village of Tauría, which is about 2950  m high and has 241 inhabitants (as of 2017). Tauría is 40 km west-southwest of the provincial capital Cotahuasi .

Geographical location

The district of Tauría is located in the Cordillera Volcánica in the extreme southwest of the province of La Unión. The district is bordered to the west by the Río Marán and to the east by the Río Cotahuasi .

The district of Tauría borders in the extreme south with the district Yanaquihua ( province Condesuyos ), in the southwest with the district Cahuacho ( province Caravelí ), in the northwest with the districts Pausa ( province Páucar del Sara Sara ), Sayla and Corculla (province Páucar del Sara Sara) ), to the northeast to the Quechualla district and to the southeast to the Toro district .
