Matt Riddle (born January 14, 1986 in Allentown , Pennsylvania ) is an American wrestler . He is currently under contract with the WWE and appears regularly on their show SmackDown .

Wrestling career

MMA career (2008-2014)

At the Ultimate Fighter 7 Finals on June 21, 2008 Riddle made his UFC and professional debut against Dante Rivera. During his time at UFC, he won many fights and two awards. On February 26, 2013, Riddle announced that he had tested positive for marijuana. This was his second drug test positive in a year, and Riddle was subsequently fired from his doctorate. He ended his UFC career with an octagon record of 10-3 and a streak of five straight wins.

Shortly after his release from UFC, Riddle signed a contract with the Texas-based promotion Legacy Fighting Championships. However, on May 18, 2013, it was announced that Riddle had joined the Bellator MMA roster instead after his legacy contract was bought. Riddle was to enter the Bellators Welterweight Tournament in his ninth season, which began in the fall of 2013. However, Riddle broke his rib and was unable to participate in the tournament. He then withdrew from the MMA fights for financial reasons. A few weeks later, Riddle came back from retirement. However, he sustained another injury in a fight and was then voluntarily released from his contract.

Free Agent (2014-2018)

On October 29, 2014, it was reported that Riddle was training for a career in professional wrestling. Riddle made his professional wrestling debut on February 7, 2015 at the Monster Factory. In July 2015, he won the Monster Factory Heavyweight Championship. On September 15, 2015, it was announced that Riddle had signed with the World Wrestling Network (WWN) to attend the Evolve events in October. Riddle later confirmed that he had attended a WWE tryout. On January 24, 2016, Riddle won Evolve's Style Battle Tournament. On April 8, it was reported that Riddle had signed a contract with Evolve's parent company WWN.

On January 15, 2017, Riddle defeated Rampage Brown to win the Progress Atlas Championship. On April 1, Riddle defeated five other wrestlers to become the first WWN champion. On August 5th, Riddle won the Scenic City Invitational Tournament. On October 20th, Riddle and Jeff Cobb, known collectively as "The Chosen Bros", defeated the Lucha Brothers Rey Fenix ​​and Penta el Zero M for the PWG World Tag Team Championship. They held the titles until April 20, 2018, when they lost to The Rascalz Zachary Wentz and Dezmond Xavier.

On April 5, 2018, Riddle defeated Zack Saber Jr. at Evolve 102 to win the Evolve Championship. On August 4th, Riddle lost the Evolve Championship to Shane Strickland at Evolve 108.

World Wrestling Entertainment (since 2018)

On July 31, 2018, it was reported that Riddle had signed a contract with the WWE . Riddle's NXT debut was on October 31st when he defeated Luke Menzies.

In March 2019, he began feuding with then-NXT North American Champion Velveteen Dream . However, he could not win the title. In the October 2, 2019 NXT episode, Riddle unsuccessfully challenged then-NXT Champion Adam Cole .

In the November 1, 2019 episode of SmackDown, Riddle and Keith Lee were one of the many NXT wrestlers who invaded the show, confronted, and ultimately attacked Sami Zayn . The January 10, 2020 NXT episode announced the 2020 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic contestants, with Riddle and Pete Dunne announced as surprise entrants . They won the tournament and thus a chance at the NXT Tag Team Championship . On February 16, 2020, they won the titles from Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Reilly of The Undisputed Era. The reign lasted 87 days and the two lost the title on May 13, 2020 to Imperium Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner.

On May 29, 2020, Kurt Angle announced that Riddle would be moving to SmackDown . Riddle made his debut on the main roster in the June 19 episode of SmackDown, interrupting Intercontinental Champion AJ Styles . In a subsequent title match, however, he could not win the title.
