The Quechualla district is located in the La Unión Province in the Arequipa region in southwestern Peru . The district was founded on May 4, 1835. It has an area of 135 km². The 2017 census counted 287 residents. In 1993 the population was 361, in 2007 it was 278. The district administration is located in the village of Velinga, which is about 1980 m high and has 91 inhabitants (as of 2017). Velinga is 15 km west-southwest of the provincial capital Cotahuasi . Near Velinga on the Río Cotahuasi is the Judío Pampa cactus forest.
Geographical location
The Quechualla district is located in the Cordillera Volcánica in the southwest of the La Unión province. The lower reaches of the Río Cotahuasi crosses the east of the district in a south-westerly direction.
The Quechualla district is bordered to the southeast by the district Toro , on the southwest by the district Tauria , the west by the district Corculla ( province Paucar del Sara Sara ) and the north by the district Charcana .
