The Tomepampa district is located in the La Unión province in the Arequipa region in southwestern Peru . The district was founded on May 4, 1835. It has an area of ​​96.9 km². The 2017 census counted 724 residents. In 1993 the population was 986, in 2007 it was 892. The district administration is located in the 2590  m high village of Tomepampa with 329 inhabitants (as of 2017). Tomepampa is 16 km northeast of the provincial capital, Cotahuasi .

Geographical location

The district of Tomepampa is located in the Cordillera Volcánica in the southeast of the province of La Unión. The upper reaches of the Río Cotahuasi flows west along the northern district boundary . The mountains Cerro Saraccoto, Cerro Condor Sayana and Cerro Soncco Orcco rise along the southern district boundary.

The Tomepampa district borders in the southwest on the Cotahuasi district , in the northwest on the Huaynacotas district , in the northeast on the Alca district and in the south on the Salamanca district ( Condesuyos province ).
