The district of San Javier de Alpabamba is located in the province of Páucar del Sara Sara in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was established on July 24, 1952. It has an area of ​​118 km². The 2017 census counted 312 residents. In 1993 the population was 446, in 2007 it was 510. The district administration is based in the 2630  m high town of San Javier de Alpabamba with 103 inhabitants (as of 2017). San Javier de Alpabamba is 25 km north of the provincial capital Pausa .

Geographical location

The district of San Javier de Alpabamba is located in the Cordillera Volcánica in the east north of the province of Páucar del Sara Sara. It is located on the east bank of the south-flowing Río Huanca Huanca.

The district of San Javier de Alpabamba is bordered to the west by the district of Marcabamba , to the northwest and north by the district of San Francisco de Ravacayco ( Parinacochas province ), to the northeast by the district of Oyolo and to the southeast by the district of Colta .
