The Puyusca district is located in the Parinacochas Province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was established on March 5, 1954. It has an area of 643 km². The 2017 census counted 2176 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2528, in 2007 it was 2360. The district administration is located in the 3290 m high village of Incuyo with 858 inhabitants (as of 2017). Incuyo is 35 km southeast of the provincial capital Coracora .
Geographical location
The Puyusca district is located in the Cordillera Volcánica in the extreme southeast of the Parinacochas province. The district stretches from the 3,272 m high lake Laguna Parinacochas in the west to the 5505 m high volcano Sarasara in the southeast. Along the northeastern district boundary, the Río Pararca (also Río Vado) flows south, before turning north of the Sarasara to the east.
The Puyusca district borders in the west on the district Pullo , in the north on the district Chumpi , in the east on the districts Lampa , Sara Sara and Pausa (all three in the province Páucar del Sara Sara ) and in the south on the districts Cahuacho and Quicacha ( both in the province of Caravelí ).
