The Quicacha district is located in the Caravelí province in the Arequipa region in southwest Peru . The district was founded on June 25, 1825. It has an area of ​​1036 km². The 2017 census counted 1969 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1664, in 2007 it was 1885. The district administration is located in the village of Quicacha, at an altitude of 1820  m , with 300 inhabitants (as of 2017). Quicacha is located on the Río Quicacha, upper reaches of the Río Chaparra, just under 50 km west-northwest of the provincial capital Caravelí .

Geographical location

The Quicacha district is located in the eastern north of the Caravelí province. The district extends over the southern foothills of the Cordillera Volcánica . The area is drained to the south via the Río Chaparra. The area consists mostly of desert.

The district of Quicacha borders in the southwest on the district Chaparra , in the west on the district Huanuhuanu , in the north on the districts Pullo and Puyusca (both in the province Parinacochas ), in the east on the district Cahuacho and in the south on the district Atico .
