The district of Yauca is located in the province of Caravelí in the Arequipa region in southwest Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of 556.3 km². The 2017 census counted 1,877 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1691, in 2007 it was 1708. The district administration is based in the small town of Yauca with 1468 inhabitants located on the right bank of the Río Yauca at an altitude of 22 m 4 km from the sea (as of 2017).
Geographical location
The district of Yauca is located in the west of the province of Caravelí. It extends in the west to the mouth of the Río Acarí . It has a 28 km long coastline on the Pacific Ocean and extends up to 30 km inland. The Río Yauca flows through the district in a south-south-west direction. Irrigated agriculture is practiced in the immediate vicinity of the river. Otherwise the area consists of desert. In the north of the district rise the foothills of the Peruvian Western Cordillera . The national road 1S ( Panamericana ) crosses the district near the coast.
The district of Yauca borders in the west on the district Acarí , in the north on the district Jaquí and in the east on the district Atiquipa .
