The Jaquí district is located in the Caravelí province in the Arequipa region in southwest Peru . The district has an area of 424.73 km². The 2017 census counted 1532 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2498, in 2007 it was 1685. The seat of the district administration is the small town of Jaquí with 1400 inhabitants (as of 2017). Jaquí is located in the river valley of the Río Yauca at an altitude of 295 m . Irrigated agriculture is practiced along the Río Yauca. Otherwise the area consists of desert.
Geographical location
The Jaquí district is located in the west of the Caravelí province. It extends over the desert-like coastal plateau at the southern foot of the Peruvian Western Cordillera . The district is traversed by the Río Yauca in a south-southwest direction. The district extends up to 15 km to the sea coast.
The Jaqui district is bordered to the south by the district Yauca , the west by the district Acarí , in the northeast on the district Sancos ( province Lucanas , Ayacucho region ) and in the far east to the district Atiquipa .
