The Colca district is located in the Víctor Fajardo Province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of 63.9 km². The 2017 census counted 1058 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1513, in 2007 it was 1220. The seat of the district administration is the 2972 m high village of Colca with 631 inhabitants (as of 2017). Colca is about 6 km northeast of the provincial capital Huancapi .
Geographical location
The Colca district is located in the Andean highlands in the northeast of the Víctor Fajardo province. The Río Pampas flows along the northern and eastern district boundaries in an easterly direction.
The Colca district borders the Cayara district to the south, the Huancapi district to the west, the Cangallo district ( Cangallo province ) to the northwest , and the Vischongo , Vilcas Huamán and Huambalpa districts to the north and east (all three in the Vilcas province) Huamán ).
