The Huancaraylla district is located in the Víctor Fajardo Province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district dates back to a foundation in 1857. At that time the place was called Santo Domingo de Guancaraylla. The district has an area of ​​162 km². The 2017 census counted 1338 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3860, in 2007 it was 1791. The district administration is located in the 3230  m high village of Huancaraylla with 504 inhabitants (as of 2017). Huancaraylla is located 5 km northwest of the provincial capital Huancapi .

Geographical location

The district of Huancaraylla is located in the Andean highlands west-central in the province of Víctor Fajardo. The district is drained via the Río Huyllcamayo north to the Río Pampas .

The district of Huancaraylla borders in the southwest on the districts Sacsamarca and Carapo (both in the province of Huanca Sancos ), in the northwest on the districts Huamanquiquia and Alcamenca and in the east on the district Huancapi .
