The district of María Parado de Bellido is located in the province of Cangallo in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was established on June 18, 1962. The district was named after María Parado de Bellido († 1822), a national heroine in Peru's struggle for independence.

The district has an area of ​​132 km². The 2017 census counted 2167 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3071, in 2007 it was 2831. The district administration is located in the 3236  m high village of Pomabamba with 458 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pomabamba is located 10 km west-northwest of the provincial capital Cangallo .

Geographical location

The district of María Parado de Bellido is located in the Andean highlands in the east-south of the province of Cangallo. The Río Pampas flows east along the southern district boundary and drains the area.

The María Parado de Bellido district borders on the Chuschi district in the west, the Los Morochucos district in the northeast, the Cangallo district in the southeast and the Alcamenca district ( Víctor Fajardo province ) in the south .
