The Paras district is located in the Cangallo province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district founded on June 18, 1962 has an area of ​​778 km². The 2017 census counted 4408 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 5418, in 2007 it was 5017. The district administration is located in the village of Paras with 670 inhabitants (as of 2017) not far from the upper reaches of the Río Pampas at an altitude of 3330  m .

Geographical location

The Paras district is located in the far west of the Cangallo Province, 60 km southwest of the regional capital Ayacucho . The district is located in the western Andean highlands . The foothills of the Peruvian Western Cordillera extend into the district. The upper reaches of the Río Pampas runs along the southwestern border of the district, the left tributary of the Río Palmitos forms the western border of the district.

The district of Paras borders in the west and north on the district Pilpichaca ( province Huaytará in the region Huancavelica ), in the northeast on the districts Chuschi and Totos and in the south on the district Vilcanchos ( province Víctor Fajardo ).
