The district of Cangallo is located in the province of Cangallo in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was established on November 19, 1954. It has an area of ​​184 km². The 2017 census counted 6008 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 6193, in 2007 it was 6771. The seat of the district and provincial administration is the 2577  m high town of Cangallo with 2301 inhabitants (as of 2017). This is located on the north bank of the east-flowing Río Pampas 53 km south of the regional capital Ayacucho .

Geographical location

The district of Cangallo is located in the Andean highlands in the far east of the province of Cangallo. The Río Pampas borders the district to the south. The Río Mayobamba, the right source of the Río Vischongo, borders the district in the north.

The district of Cangallo borders in the west on the districts of María Parado de Bellido and Los Morochucos , in the north on the district Chiara ( province Huamanga ), in the east on the district Vischongo ( province Vilcas Huamán ) and in the south on the districts Colca , Huancapi and Alcamenca (all three in the province of Víctor Fajardo ).
