James Romero (born January 17, 1989 ) is a professional American poker player .

Romero studied finance at the University of Oregon . He lives in Las Vegas .

Poker career

Romero plays online under the nicknames boardrider68 ( PokerStars ) , skielanskis ( Full Tilt Poker ) , shniggle (Carbon Poker) and lilpunts68 (Lock Poker) . In May 2013 he achieved his first cash placement at a live tournament , and has been playing regularly at live events since 2016.

Romero won the Main Event of the World Poker Tour at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas in early December 2016 . For this he prevailed against 790 other players and secured a prize of just under two million US dollars . In June 2017 he was the first time in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino successfully in Las Vegas and came in six tournaments of the variant No-Limit Hold'em in the money. In February 2018 Romero won an event of the LA Poker Classic in Los Angeles with a prize of almost 100,000 dollars. At the end of June 2018, he took third place at a tournament of the DeepStack Championship Poker Series at the Venetian Resort Hotel in Las Vegas, worth almost $ 300,000. At the end of October 2018 Romero finished seventh in the High Roller of the World Series of Poker Europe at King's Resort in Rozvadov and received around 115,000 euros . In mid-January 2019, he finished second at a PokerStars Caribbean Adventures event in the Bahamas and secured almost $ 125,000 through a deal . In late June 2019, Romero finished third in a monster stack event at the Venetian for over $ 150,000. In mid-August 2019, he finished second in a tournament at the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open in Hollywood , Florida , earning more than $ 250,000. In mid-January 2020, Romero took third place at the main event of the partypoker Millions UK in Nottingham, worth $ 420,000. In February 2020 he prevailed in the Super High Roller of the partypoker Millions South America and received the grand prize of $ 325,000.
