The Sarhua District is located in the Víctor Fajardo Province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on November 14, 1910. It has an area of 379 km². The 2017 census counted 2692 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3002, in 2007 it was 2985. The district administration is located in the 2982 m high village of Sarhua with a population of 1,350 (as of 2017). Sarhua is just under 30 km west-northwest of the provincial capital Huancapi . 7 km west-northwest of Sarhua is the archaeological site of Pukara.
Geographical location
The Sarhua district is located in the Andean highlands in the west of the Víctor Fajardo province. The district is bounded in the north by the east flowing Río Pampas and in the east by its tributary Río Caracha .
The Sarhua district is bordered to the west by the district Vilcanchos , on the north by the district Chuschi ( province Cangallo ), to the east by the district Huamanquiquia and on the south by the districts Carapo and Santiago de Lucanamarca (both in the province Huanca Sancos ).
