Siegfried von Arneburg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Siegfried (Latin Sifridus burgravius de Arneborch ; † between 1190 and 1193 ) was burgrave of Arneburg in the Altmark .

Life

The father was probably Berengar II von Quenstedt, who was mentioned as Vogt ( advocatus ) of Halberstadt Cathedral between 1128 and 1152.

The oldest mention of Siegfried is from around 1145/57 in an undated document in Stendal. In 1164 he was first referred to as castellanus de Arneborch . This title referred to the former Reichsburg Arneburg and actually included the administration of royal rights in the area next to the margrave. However, it was probably bestowed by the Margrave Albrecht (see legal status of the Burgraves of Brandenburg ).

To 1173 Siegfried was then repeatedly as burgravius in the context of the next Margrave Otto I listed.

After Otto's death, Siegfried only appeared in documents from the Halberstadt bishop between 1184 and 1190, and at that time he apparently no longer owned his position and rights in Arneburg, if he ever actually exercised them.

The earliest mention of his son Conrad ( Conradus ) is from 1186; in 1194 and 1197 he also referred to himself as Burgrave of Arneburg , but probably only as a title without actual authorizations. No other descendants or bearers of this title are known.
