The district of Ocoyo is located in the province of Huaytará in the region of Huancavelica in south- central Peru . The district was founded on September 6, 1920. It has an area of ​​168 km². The 2017 census counted 865 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1096, in 2007 it was 1901. The district administration is located in the 1950  m high village of Ocoyo with 131 inhabitants (as of 2017). Ocoyo is 57 km southeast of the provincial capital Huaytará .

Geographical location

The district of Ocoyo is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the extreme south of the Huaytará province. The Río Grande initially flows westward along the northwestern district boundary, later it turns south, crosses the district and then forms the southeastern district boundary.

The Ocoyo district borders on the Córdova district in the west, the Laramarca and Querco districts in the north, the Santiago de Quirahuara district in the east, the Huac-Huas district ( Lucanas province ) in the southeast and the Tibillo district ( province Palpa ).
