The Tibillo District is located in the Palpa Province in the Ica Region in southwestern Peru . The district was established on January 16, 1953. It has an area of ​​336 km². At the 2017 census, 344 people lived in the Tibillo district. In 1993 the population was 598, in 2007 it was 414. The administrative center is the town of Tibillo, at an altitude of 2167  m , with 236 inhabitants (as of 2017). Tibillo is located in the river valley of the Río Santa Cruz (the upper course is also called Río Tibillo) about 50 km north of the provincial capital Palpa .

Geographical location

The Tibillo district is located in the western foothills of the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the north of the Palpa province. The maximum longitudinal extent in SSW-NNE direction is about 30 km, the maximum width is about 20 km. The district extends over the upper middle reaches of the Río Santa Cruz (also Río Tibillo) and extends in the northeast to the west bank of the Río Grande .

The district of Tibillo borders in the southeast with the district Río Grande , in the south with the district Santa Cruz , in the southwest with the district Santiago ( province Ica ), in the west with the district Yauca del Rosario (also in the province Ica), in the northwest the district of Córdova ( province of Huaytará , region of Huancavelica ), in the northeast to the district of Ocoyo (also in the province of Huaytará) and in the east to the district of Huac-Huas ( province of Lucanas , region of Ayacucho ).
