The Palpa District is located in the Palpa Province in the Ica region in southwestern Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of ​​131 km². At the 2017 census, there were 7,748 inhabitants in the Palpa district. In 1993 the population was 7061, in 2007 it was 7250. The administrative seat is the provincial capital Palpa with 4837 inhabitants located between the rivers of Río Palpa and Río Vizcas at an altitude of 347  m (as of 2017). In addition, there are the suburbs of Sacramento with 2075 inhabitants and San Ignacio with 288 inhabitants as larger localities.

Geographical location

The Palpa District is located at the foot of the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the south-east of the Palpa Province. The district extends along the lower reaches of the Río Palpa and Río Vizcas.

The Palpa district on the south by the district Llipata , the west by the district Río Grande , on the north by the district Llauta ( province Lucanas , Ayacucho region ) and to the east by the districts Lara Mate and Ocaña (both in the province Lucanas).
