The district of Ocaña is located in the province of Lucanas in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on April 8, 1929. It has an area of 859 km². The 2017 census counted 2,453 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 4027, in 2007 it was 3444. The district administration is located in the 2660 m high village of Ocaña with 669 inhabitants (as of 2017). Ocaña is located 82 km west-northwest of the provincial capital Puquio .
Geographical location
The district of Ocaña is located on the western flank of the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the southwest of the province of Lucanas. The Río Vizcas , a left tributary of the Río Grande , crosses the district in a west-southwest direction.
The district of Ocaña borders in the southwest on the district El Ingenio ( province Nasca ), in the west on the districts Llipata and Palpa (both in the province Palpa ), in the northwest on the district Laramate , in the northeast on the district San Pedro de Palco as well as in Southeast to the Otoca District .
