The province of Nasca (outdated spelling: Nazca ) is one of five provinces in the Ica region on the Pacific coast of Peru , about 390 km south-southeast of the state capital Lima . The province has an area of 5234.24 km². At the 2017 census, 69,157 people lived in the province. In 1993 the population was 52,742, in 2007 57,531. The provincial administration is located in the city of Nasca .
Geographical location
The Nasca province has an approximately 70 km long stretch of coast on the Pacific Ocean in southern Peru. The province stretches about 80 km inland to the foothills of the Peruvian Western Cordillera . The river Río Grande flows through the arid, desert coastal region in a southerly direction. The provincial capital lies on the left tributary of the Río Nazca . Irrigated agriculture is practiced along the larger rivers.
The province of Nasca borders the province of Ica in the north-west, the province of Palpa in the north, the province of Lucanas ( region Ayacucho ) in the north-east and the province of Caravelí ( region Arequipa ) in the south-east .
