The Vista Alegre district is located in the Nasca Province in the Ica region in southwest Peru . The district was established on September 20, 1984. It has an area of 535 km². The 2017 census counted 21,605 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 10,239, in 2007 13,711. The district administration is located in the 585 m high town of Vista Alegre with 18,908 inhabitants (as of 2017). Vista Alegre is located 2 km south-southwest of the provincial capital Nasca and is part of its metropolitan area.
Nazca Airport (Aeropuerto María Reiche Neuman) is located two kilometers southwest of Vista Alegre . 15 kilometers south of Vista Alegre on the south bank of the Quebrada Poroma is the Chauchilla cemetery , a burial place of the Nazca culture .
Geographical location
The Vista Alegre district extends over the central east of the Nasca province. The southern district boundary runs close to the 15th southern parallel. The national road 1S ( Panamericana ) from Palpa to Yauca runs mainly along the western district border. The area is crossed by the foothills of the Peruvian Western Cordillera . The landscape is mostly desert-like.
The Vista Alegre district is bordered to the west and the north by the district Nasca , on the east by the districts Leoncio Prado and Santa Lucía (both in the province Lucanas ) and in the south by the district Marcona .
