The Changuillo district is located in the Nasca Province in the Ica region in southwest Peru . The district was established on January 12, 1945. It has an area of ​​955 km². The 2017 census counted 2081 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2838, in 2007 it was 1950. The seat of the district administration is the 244  m high village Changuillo with 258 inhabitants (as of 2017). Changuillo is just 36 km northwest of the provincial capital Nasca .

Geographical location

The Changuillo District is located in the northwest of the Nasca Province. The predominantly desert district extends in the south to the Pacific coast . The San Fernando National Reserve extends there (Spanish: Reserva nacional San Fernando). In the north of the district the rivers Río Santa Cruz (coming from the west) and Río Ingenio and Río Nazca (coming from the east) flow into the Río Grande . This crosses the district in a southerly direction and finally flows into the sea. In the west, a mountain ridge up to 984  m high runs in a north-south direction. In the extreme southeast rises the 1785  m high Cerro Criterión.

The Changuillo district borders in the west on the district Santiago ( province Ica ), in the north and northeast on the districts Santa Cruz and Llipata (both in the province Palpa ), in the east on the districts El Ingenio and Nasca and in the south on the district Marcona .
