The province of Ica is one of five provinces of the region of Ica on the Pacific coast of Peru , about 270 km south-southeast of the state capital Lima . The province has an area of 7894 km². At the 2017 census, 391,519 people lived in the province. In 1993 the population was 244,741, in 2007 it was 321,332. The provincial administration is located in the city of Ica .
Geographical location
The province of Ica has an approximately 80 km long coastline on the Pacific Ocean in the south of Peru. The province extends about 90 km inland. There it extends to the foothills of the Peruvian Western Cordillera . The river Río Ica flows through the arid, desert coastal region in a southerly direction. The provincial capital lies on its banks. Irrigated agriculture is practiced there.
The province of Ica borders in the west and northwest on the province of Pisco , in the northeast on the province Huaytará ( region Huancavelica ), in the east on the province Palpa and in the southeast on the province Nasca .
Administrative division
The province of Ica is divided into 14 districts (distritos) . The district of Ica is the seat of the provincial administration.
