The district of Ocucaje is located in the province of Ica in the region of Ica in southwestern Peru . The district was established on May 18, 1984. It has an area of ​​1401 km². The 2017 census counted 4683 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3305, in 2007 it was 3639. The district administration is located in the 325  m high town of Ocucaje with 2211 inhabitants (as of 2017). Ocucaje is located on the Río Ica , 30 km south of the regional and provincial capital of Ica . Various archaeological finds of the Paracas culture (for example woven goods) come from the district area.

Geographical location

The district of Ocucaje is located in the southwest of the province of Ica. The area extends from the lower reaches of the Río Ica in the northeast, where irrigated agriculture is practiced, to the Pacific coast . The area consists mainly of desert.

The district of Ocucaje borders in the northwest on the district Ica and in the north, east and southeast on the district Santiago .
