The Los Aquijes district is located in the Ica Province in the Ica region in southwest Peru . The district founded on December 28, 1961 has an area of ​​90.92 km². At the 2017 census, 21,963 residents lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 11,176, in 2007 it was 16,298. The district administration is located in the 475  m high town of Los Aquijes with 2918 inhabitants (as of 2017). Los Aquijes is 5.5 km southeast of the city center of the regional and provincial capital Ica , to whose metropolitan area the city belongs.

Geographical location

The Los Aquijes district is located in the central northeast of the province of Ica. The longitudinal extent in east-west direction is 18 km. In the west, the Río Ica flows south along the district boundary. The district extends in the east over a dry valley, which is bordered by the foothills of the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the north, east and south. Irrigated agriculture is practiced in the west of the district.

The Los Aquijes district borders the Ica district in the west, the Parcona district in the northwest , the La Tinguiña district in the north, the Yauca del Rosario district in the northeast, east and southeast and the Pueblo Nuevo district in the south .
