The Subtanjalla District is located in the Ica Province in the Ica Region in southwest Peru . The district was founded on February 10, 1959 and has an area of ​​193.97 km². In the 2017 census, there were 27,387 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 8,747, in 2007 it was 19,019. The district administration is located in the 429  m high town of Subtanjalla with 27,133 inhabitants (as of 2017). Subtanjalla is located in the north of the metropolitan area of ​​the provincial and regional capital Ica , 6 km north-northwest of the city center. The national road 1S ( Panamericana ) from Ica to Pisco leads past Subtanjalla.

Geographical location

The Subtanjalla District is located in the north-west of the Ica Province. It has a longitudinal extent in the WSW-ONE direction of about 31 km and a maximum width of 7 km. The settlement area is in the far east. Otherwise the area consists of desert.

The Subtanjalla district borders on the Paracas district ( Pisco province ) in the west, the Salas district in the north, the San Juan Bautista district in the east and the Ica district in the south .
