The district of Ica is located in the province of Ica in the region of Ica in southwest Peru . The district founded on June 25, 1855 has an area of 887.51 km². At the 2017 census, 150,280 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 106,381, in 2007 125,189. The district administration is located in the 406 m high regional and provincial capital Ica with 149,618 inhabitants (as of 2017).
Geographical location
The district of Ica is located in the west of the province of Ica and extends to the sea in the southwest. It has a longitudinal extension in SSW-NNE direction of about 51 km and a maximum width of about 30 km. The settlement area is located in the extreme northeast. Otherwise the area consists of desert. The coastline on the Pacific Ocean has a length of about 12 km.
The Ica district is bordered by the Paracas district ( Pisco province ) to the west, the Subtanjalla district to the north, the San Juan Bautista , La Tinguiña , Parcona , Los Aquijes and Pueblo Nuevo districts to the northeast, and the Santiago and Ocucaje districts to the southeast .
