Ashley McKenzie (born July 17, 1989 in London ) is a British judoka . He was third in the European Championship in 2013 and 2018.

Athletic career

The 1.68 m tall Ashley McKenzie was third in the 2005 European Cadet Championships in the weight class up to 50 kilograms. Since 2006 he has been fighting in the ultra-light weight class up to 60 kilograms. In 2007 he won a bronze medal at the U20 European Championships. Two years later he was third in the U23 European Championships, and in 2010 he won the title. At the Olympic Games in London in 2012 he had a bye in the first round, in the second round he was eliminated by the Japanese Hiroaki Hiraoka .

At the European Championships in Budapest in 2013 he was defeated in the semifinals to the Georgian Amiran Papinashvili , in the battle for bronze McKenzie defeated the Austrian Ludwig Paischer . In 2014 he finished fifth at the European Championships . Three months later he won the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow by beating Indian Navjot Chana in the final . The 2015 European Championships were held as part of the 2015 European Games in Baku. McKenzie lost to the Dutchman Jeroen Mooren in the round of 16 . At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, he was eliminated in his second fight against the Kazakhs Jeldos Smetow .

In 2017 McKenzie finished seventh at the European Championships in Warsaw . The following year the European Championships took place in Tel Aviv . McKenzie lost in the quarterfinals to the Russian Islam Yaschujew . With victories over the Hungarian Csaba Szabó and the Ukrainian Artem Lesyuk, he won a bronze medal again after 2013. At the European Championships held in Minsk as part of the 2019 European Games, McKenzie lost to French Luka Mkheidze in the round of 16 .
