The district of Santa Lucía is located in the province of Lucanas in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district emerged in the founding years of the Republic of Peru. It has an area of ​​1034 km². The 2017 census counted 1379 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1434, in 2007 it was 1127. The district administration is located in the 2343  m high town of Santa Lucía with 410 inhabitants (as of 2017). Santa Lucía is 53 km southwest of the provincial capital Puquio .

Geographical location

The district of Santa Lucía is located on the southwest flank of the Peruvian western cordillera in the western south of the province of Lucanas. In the southeast the district extends to the west bank of the Río Yauca .

The district of Santa Lucía borders in the south on the districts Acarí and Bella Unión (both in the province Caravelí ), in the southwest on the districts Marcona and Vista Alegre (both in the province Nasca ), in the northwest on the district Leoncio Prado , in the northeast the districts of Lucanas and San Cristóbal , in the east to the district of Saisa and in the extreme southeast to the district of San Pedro .
