The Otoca district is located in the Lucanas Province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district emerged in the founding years of the Republic of Peru. It has an area of 717 km². The 2017 census counted 2041 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2619, in 2007 3013. The seat of the district administration is the 1800 m high village of Otoca with 547 inhabitants (as of 2017). Otoca is located 65 km west-northwest of the provincial capital Puquio .
Geographical location
The Otoca district is located on the southwest flank of the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the southwest of the Lucanas Province. The longitudinal extent in the WSW-ONE direction is almost 55 km, the maximum width at 17 km. The Río Ingenio , a left tributary of the Río Grande , crosses the district in a south-westerly direction.
The Otoca district borders in the southwest on the El Ingenio district ( Nasca province ), in the northwest on the Ocaña district , in the north on the San Pedro de Palco district , in the east on the Lucanas district and in the south on the Leoncio Prado district .
