The district of Chaviña is located in the province of Lucanas in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was established on August 22, 1921. It has an area of ​​367 km². The 2017 census counted 2303 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2712, in 2007 it was 2355. The district administration is located in the 3310  m high village of Chaviña with 1448 inhabitants (as of 2017). Chaviña is 44 km southeast of the provincial capital Puquio .

Geographical location

The district of Chaviña is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the extreme southeast of the province of Lucanas. The course of the Río Yauca limits the district to the east and south.

The Chaviña district is bordered to the west by the districts Sancos , San Pedro and Puquio , on the east by the district Coracora , in the southeast of the district Chumpi and the south by the district Pullo (the latter three districts belonging to the province Parinacochas ).
