The Carmen Salcedo district is located in the Lucanas Province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was established on December 21, 1943. It has an area of ​​464 km². The 2017 census counted 1797 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2234, in 2007 it was 3427. The district administration is seated in the 3437  m high village of Andamarca with 1709 inhabitants (as of 2017). Andamarca is just 40 km north-northeast of the provincial capital Puquio .

Geographical location

The Carmen Salcedo district is located in the Andean highlands in the central northeast of the Lucanas province. The Río Mayo Negro, a left tributary of the Río Sondondo , crosses the district in a northeastern direction.

The Carmen Salcedo district borders in the south on the Puquio district , in the far west on the Lucanas district , in the northwest and in the north on the Cabana district and in the east on the Chipao district .
