The district of San Cristóbal is located in the province of Lucanas in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was established on March 25, 1986. It has an area of 407 km². The 2017 census counted 1,850 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1444, in 2007 it was 1944. The seat of the district administration is the 3550 m high village of San Cristóbal with 1199 inhabitants (as of 2017). San Cristóbal is located 12 km west-southwest of the provincial capital Puquio .
Geographical location
The district of San Cristóbal is located in the Andean highlands south-central in the province of Lucanas. The Río Acarí and its right tributary Río San José border the district in the east.
The district of San Cristóbal borders in the southwest on the district Saisa , in the west on the district Santa Lucía , in the north on the district Lucanas , in the northeast on the districts San Juan and Puquio and in the east on the district San Pedro .
