The district of Santiago de Chocorvos is located in the province of Huaytará in the region of Huancavelica in south- central Peru . The district emerged in the founding years of the Republic of Peru. It has an area of 1144 km². The 2017 census counted 1818 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3998, in 2007 it was 3359. The seat of the district administration is the 3892 m high town of Santiago de Chocorvos with 325 inhabitants (as of 2017). Santiago de Chocorvos is located 26 km south-southeast of the provincial capital Huaytará .
Geographical location
The district of Santiago de Chocorvos is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera, southwest-central in the province of Huaytará. The longitudinal extension in WSW-ONE direction is 74 km. The Río Olaya and its left tributary Río Tambo cross the east of the district in a westerly direction. Then the Río Olaya runs along the northern district border to the west, where it joins the Río Tambo to the Río Ica . The latter continues its course westward along the district boundary.
The district of Santiago de Chocorvos borders in the southwest with the districts of Yauca del Rosario and San José de los Molinos (both in the province of Ica ), in the northwest with the districts Huaytará , Ayaví , San Francisco de Sangayaico and Santo Domingo de Capillas , in the northeast the district of Pilpichaca and in the southeast to the districts of Querco , Laramarca and San Isidro .
