The Huachocolpa District is located in the Huancavelica Province in the Huancavelica region in southwest central Peru . The district was established on October 29, 1953. It has an area of ​​338 km². The 2017 census counted 1955 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3196, in 2007 it was 3032. The district administration is located in the 3956  m high village of Huachocolpa with 1084 inhabitants (as of 2017). Huachocolpa is located 27 km south of the provincial and regional capital Huancavelica .

Geographical location

The Huachocolpa district is located in the arid Andean highlands in the extreme south of the Huancavelica province. The area is drained via the Río Urubamba .

The district of Huachocolpa borders in the south on the district Pilpichaca ( province Huaytará ), in the west on the district Santa Ana ( province Castrovirreyna ), in the north on the district Huancavelica , in the northeast on the district Ccochaccasa ( province Angaraes ) and in the east on the district Lircay (also in the Angaraes province).
