The Laria District is located in the Huancavelica Province in the Huancavelica region in southwest central Peru . The district was established on June 23, 1962. It has an area of ​​64.4 km². The 2017 census counted 773 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1423, in 2007 it was 1443. The district administration is based in the 3861  m high town of Laria with 247 inhabitants (as of 2017). Laria is located 26 km north-northwest of the provincial and regional capital Huancavelica .

Geographical location

The Laria district is located in the arid Andean highlands in the central northwest of the Huancavelica province. The Río Alauma drains the area east to the Río Mantaro .

The Laria district is bordered to the west by the district Manta , in the northwest on the district Moya , in the northeast on the district Conayca , in the far east to the district Huando and in the southeast and the south by the district Nuevo Occoro .
