history
Saumalköl was founded in 1866 as the first farming settlement in Akmolinsk Oblast. First five families from the Chelyabinsk region settled here, later other Russian farmers joined them. The village was built on land that the peasants had leased from local Kazakhs and was first called Kriwoosjornoje (Кривоозёрное). In 1922 the place was renamed in honor of Ivan Volodarsky, a commander of the Red Army who had died in the battle for the village three years earlier, in Volodarskoye (Володарское).
On May 2, 1997, the place was renamed Saumalköl. With the dissolution of the Kökschetau area in the same year, it came to the northern Kazakhstan area at the same time.
