Besköl ( Kazakh Бескөл , Russian Бесколь Beskol or Бишкуль Bishkul ) is a place in northern Kazakhstan and the administrative center of Audany Qysylschar .

geography

Besköl is located in northern Kazakhstan in the Northern Kazakhstan region around eight kilometers south of Petropawl . West of the village runs the River Ishim .

history

The history of the place goes back to the 18th century. During archaeological excavations, the remains of a moat that served as the external defense of a military fortress were found nearby. Besköl was probably founded as a Cossack village in the middle of the century . The Kazakh name of the place translates as "five lakes", as there are several ponds nearby. The first inhabitants were Ural and Don Cossacks. Towards the end of the 18th century, more settlers came from areas of what is now Russia and Ukraine, who farmed here as farmers.

The 1999 census showed a population of 7,495 people for the place. At the last census in 2009, Besköl had 8,805 inhabitants. As of January 1, 2020, the extrapolation of the population resulted in a population of 11,595 people.
