Ruslan Sultanovich Auschew

Ruslan Sultanovich Auschew ( Russian Руслан Султанович Аушев ; born October 29, 1954 in Volodarskoye , Koktschetaw Oblast , Kazakh SSR , Soviet Union ) is a Soviet, later Russian general and politician of Ingush nationality . From March 1993 to December 2001 he was President of the Republic of Ingushetia .

Life

Ruslan Auschew received his training as an officer in the Soviet Army , served as a commander in Afghanistan and was awarded the Order of Hero of the Soviet Union in 1982. From March 1989 to August 1991 he was a member of the Congress of People's Deputies of the RSFSR , where he represented the Primorye region .

On February 28, 1993, Auschew was the only candidate to run for the presidency in Ingushetia, which he won according to official information with 99.99% of the vote. In March 1997 he became a member of the Russian Federation Committee for Problems in the Republic of Chechnya . In 1998 he was re-elected President with around 67% of the votes received.

On May 31, Auschev was discharged from the armed forces of the Russian Federation with the rank of lieutenant general by order of Vladimir Putin . On December 28, 2001, he resigned to force presidential elections. "Auschew, who did not run for a third term, has repeatedly spoken out in favor of a political solution to the Chechnya conflict and has called on President Putin to negotiate with Chechen President Aslan Maskhadov ."
