The Huaribamba district is located in the Tayacaja Province in the Huancavelica region in southwest central Peru . The district emerged in the founding years of the Republic of Peru. On December 20, 2015, the northwest of the district was separated and added to the newly established Pichos district and the already existing Pazos district. The Huaribamba district currently has an area of ​​around 150 km². The 2017 census counted 3168 inhabitants. The district administration is based in the 2996  m high village of Huaribamba with 556 inhabitants (as of 2017). Huaribamba is located 15 km north-northwest of the provincial capital Pampas .

Geographical location

The Huaribamba District is located in the Peruvian Central Cordillera in the central northwest of the Tayacaja Province. The area is drained to the east via the Río Acocra and Río Huanchuy to the Río Mantaro .

The district of Huaribamba borders in the west on the district Pazos, in the northwest on the district Pichos, in the north on the district San Marcos de Rocchac , in the northeast on the district Salcabamba , in the southeast on the districts Daniel Hernández , Santiago de Tucuma and Ahuaycha as well as in Southwest to the Acraquia district .
