The Quichuas district is located in the Tayacaja Province in the Huancavelica region in southwest central Peru . The district was formed on November 14, 2014 from parts of the Colcabamba district. The Quichuas District has an area of ​​119 km². The 2017 census counted 4166 inhabitants. The district administration is based in the village of Quichuas , which is about 2700  m high and has 715 inhabitants (as of 2017). Quichuas is located 13.5 km southeast of the provincial capital Pampas . 2 km northwest of Quichuas is the Tablachaca dam on the Río Mantaro , from which a large part of the river water is diverted to the east through the mountains.

Geographical location

The Quichuas district is located in the Peruvian Central Cordillera in the southeast of the Tayacaja province. The longitudinal extent in WNW-ESE direction is 23 km, the width is about 6 km. The district extends along the left bank of the south-east flowing Río Mantaro.

The Quichuas district borders in the southwest on the Acoria district ( Huancavelica province ), in the east on the Pampas and Daniel Hernández districts , in the north and northeast on the Colcabamba district, in the east on the Chinchihuasi district ( Churcampa province ) and in the southeast on the Cosme District (also in Churcampa Province).
