The Pazos District is located in the Tayacaja Province in the Huancavelica region in southwest central Peru . The district was formed on December 20, 2015 from parts of the Huaribamba district. It has an area of ​​about 143 km². The 2017 census counted 2062 inhabitants. The seat of the district administration is the 3280  m high village of Pichos with 1021 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pichos is located about 20 km north-northwest of the provincial capital Pampas .

Geographical location

The Pichos district is located on the western edge of the Peruvian Central Cordillera in the west of the Tayacaja province. The longitudinal extent in NNW-SSE direction is almost 19 km, the maximum width is 13 km. The area is drained to the east via the Río Acocra and Río Huanchuy to the Río Mantaro .

The Pichos district is bordered to the west by the district Pazos , on the north by the district of San Marcos de Rocchac and to the east and the south by the district Huaribamba.
