The Tintay Puncu district is located in the Tayacaja Province in the Huancavelica region in central Peru . The district was established on October 9, 1984. On December 17, 2015, the southern part of the district was split off and has since formed the newly established Roble district .
The Tintay Puncu district has an area of 256 km². The 2017 census counted 3828 inhabitants. The district administration is located in the town of Tintay, at an altitude of 2350 m , with 518 inhabitants (as of 2017). Tintay is 45 km northeast of the provincial capital Pampas .
Geographical location
The Tintay Puncu District is located in the Peruvian Central Cordillera in the east of the Tayacaja Province. The longitudinal extension in WSW-ONE direction is 31 km. The lower reaches of the Río Mantaro flows south along the eastern district boundary. Its right tributary Río Paraiso crosses the district and then runs along the northern district boundary to the east.
The Tintay Puncu district is bordered on the southwest by the district Andaymarca , the west by the district Surcubamba , on the north by the district Huachocolpa , in the northeast to the districts Pangoa , Vizcatán del Ene ( province of Satipo ) and Pucacolpa ( province of Huanta ) and the south the district of Roble.
